Raksha Bandhan honours the special relationship between brothers and sisters.
Rakhi, or Raksha Bandhan, is a festival celebrated to honor the precious and unbreakable relationship between brothers and sisters. The Sanskrit term is "the bind or knot of protection." Every year, an old Vedic celebration is observed on the full moon day of the month of Shravan (August). On August 11, Raksha Bandhan 2022 was enthusiastically observed.
A sister customarily wraps her brother's wrist with a colorful rakhi, a sacred thread that represents sibling love, on this festival. The customary aarti is performed to start the ceremony, and prayers are said for everyone's well-being to conclude it (good health, prosperity, and happiness). Following the prayer, the sister decorates the brother's forehead with a tilak, a decorative mark. After that, the brother makes a lifelong commitment to guiding and defending her. Additionally, it is customary for a brother to give his sister a variety of fun gifts. Gifts are important and represent expressions of love and affection.
The brother may also use his hands to feed his sister. The wider family ritualistically congratulates the festive celebration of brother-sister love and protection after they have hugged.
History of Raksha Bandhan (Rakhi)-:
Raksha Bandhan, commonly known as Rakhi Purnima or simply "rakhi," has a rich historical background. These are some tales connected to the Hindu religion's historical mythology. Different historical narratives are believed and followed by people. Lord Krishna and Draupadi narratives are the most well-known and dependable.
Raksha Bandhan has a connection to the Mahabharata, a Hindu epic. The finger of Lord Krishna in the Mahabharata was once severed, and it began to bleed. Draupadi noticed this and quickly attached a piece of her saree's fabric to his finger to halt the bleeding. The fabric was subsequently transformed into a holy thread.
Krishna made her a lifelong pledge that he would shield her from any harm by treating the cloth she tied as a sacred thread. After taking her to the court, pulling her by her hair, and manhandling her, the Kauravas tried to strip Draupadi of her clothing. Krishna saves her honor by giving her many reams of cloth to keep her covered.
Raksha Bandhan, when a girl ties a rakhi on her brother's wrist and he, in turn, promises to protect her much as Krishna protected Draupadi, is analogous to the act of Draupadi tying a piece of cloth on Krishna's injured finger.
Is Raksha Bandhan on August 11 or August 12 in 2022? -:
The Sawan full moon, or Sawan Purnima, occurs on August 11 this year. The Purnima Tithi in 2022 will occur between 10:38 am on August 11 and 7:05 am on August 12, according to Drik Panchang. Bhadra, on the other hand, is also occurring with the full moon and will rule for the first half of Purnima Tithi.
According to Drik Panchang, the best time to tie a Rakhi and perform rituals on Raksha Bandhan is around Aparahna, or late afternoon or Pradosh hour. Additionally, according to Hindu texts, Bhadra is a bad season that should be avoided for all auspicious activity, hence Raksha Bandhan rites should not be performed during that time. As a result, one should wait to start any auspicious work till Bhadra is over. The Raksha Bandhan Bhadra End Time will be at 08:51 pm, according to Drik Panchang. Raksha Bandhan will therefore begin on Thursday, August 11, in the evening and remain until Friday, August 12. The Raksha Bandhan Muhurta in Pradosh Time will run from 8:51 to 9:13. Also, there is no Bhadra on August 12.The full moon, though, will only be visible until 07:16 in the morning. Raksha Bandhan can therefore also be observed on this day.
